Chihuahuas Rescues - Description

There are two basic varieties of Chihuahuas; these are long- and smooth haired dogs. They are vivid, saucy and very brisk. All the time they maintain a boisterous and rowdy expression of the face. The color of the coat may range from white to black. Solid colors are more preferable in America. There are lots of broken colored species. Those may be mostly black or white with spots or markings of the contrasting color.

Despite miniature size, their body is well set and, therefore, a Chihuahua's constitution bears a sturdy streak. The front and the hind legs are set well apart and the chest is relatively broad and roomy. Head has a somewhat pea-like form, ears are a trifle sideway and erect. Eyes are dark and intense, but not excessively prominent. Ears are placed well apart, revealing the broad forehead.

The neck is slightly arched and it turns smoothly into leveled back. The length of the body from croup to neck exceeds the height at the withers. In movement, the hind legs are held parallel to each other and the fall of the hind legs occurs right behind that of the front legs. As the speed increases, the steps tend to converge near the middle point of the body. Chihuahuas move very swiftly, so it takes quite an effort to step on one.

Chihuahuas Rescues - Temperament

Chihuahuas are intelligent, sociable and loyal. They seek love of their owners and in some cases may display jealousy. They are not hostile to unfamiliar people, but are naturally alert towards them, and if there is a stranger in the house, they follow their owners around, keeping close to them.

Chihuahuas can be wary of other dogs and they have zero tolerance of teasing. For that reason they are not recommended for children, who more often than not tease them. Chihuahuas have sharp teeth and they call them into service immediately if there is a threat or a source of irritation.

These dogs are not easily trainable, but they are very intelligent and sociable. It is possible to instill a tolerant and friendly attitude toward other dogs and strangers. Chihuahuas are known to be picky about their mating partners and therefore they prefer only the likes of themselves.
