There are lots of rescue clubs, whose assignment is saving and retrieving Chihuahuas. Their activity involves searching, finding and caring for abandoned, stray and ill dogs. Eventually they promote adoption of these dogs by true dog lovers. Those are mostly non-profit groups of fanciers who have rich experiences of keeping Chihuahuas.
Rescue clubs do not intend their dogs for breeding, because as a rule those dogs have physical and congenital deficiencies. These dogs are only kept to later go to reliable pet lovers and are neutered beforehand.
Chihuahuas Rescues - Care and Health Problems
Chihuahuas do not require too much grooming. However, long haired species should be brushed every day. After grooming it is good to wipe the dog with a slightly wet and soft piece of cloth. These dogs are extremely sensitive to cold and must be kept safely inside during cold weather. It is good to use a warm dress on cold days.
There should always be enough space for the dog to feel free and loose. The small size does not stand for small confines. Chihuahuas need vigorous exercise on a daily basis and should not spend all of the time in your arms.
Chihuahuas are susceptible to colds and rheumatism. They are very delicate, especially in puppyhood. They are very prone to fractures and head injuries. That is because pups usually have a 'molera', a non-closed area of the skull. Moleras can remain open for their entire life. Chihuahuas have big heads, which frequently necessitates Caesarian sections during birth.
